Culture with a place in everyday life
Chinese incense deserves to be understood through its materials, craft, and cultural life. We look beyond the generic “Eastern fragrance” label to the woods, resins, objects, and people that give it character. Religious and ritual traditions belong in that story, with their context intact.
For modern homes, our preference is straightforward: thoughtful materials, useful objects, and a scent that leaves room for the rest of life. Start with a clear purpose and a modest choice. A rare name or a higher price is not, by itself, a reason to buy.
How we use sources
Research should lead somewhere. We use historical texts, collection records, and relevant published guidance to build an argument, then explain our own reading of the evidence. We recommend a starting point, give our reasons, and say when something is not worth the trouble.
Each guide's Sources & notes section lets you trace the factual claims and distinguish them from our judgment. We keep a source's period, place, and conditions in view. First-hand observations require real samples and records.

Who is responsible for this work?
Quiet Xiang Editorial is our organizational publishing identity. Quiet Xiang takes responsibility for the research, writing, source selection, and corrections. It is not the name of a single incense scholar, physician, or independent reviewer.
“Reviewed” records an internal evidence and wording check. It does not identify a separate second reviewer and does not mean independent medical, scientific, or cultural certification. External contributors will be credited with their permission and their contribution's scope.
How AI assistance is handled
AI assists with research organization, drafting, and illustrations; responsibility stays with Quiet Xiang. We check factual claims against sources, never against an AI answer alone. Our image policy is to identify generated illustrations and credit historical images. Illustrations do not serve as records of testing or experience.
How dates and corrections work
Publication, content revision, and internal review have distinct dates. Styling changes do not count as article revisions. Going forward, important corrections will carry a short note explaining what changed; existing date labels are not a complete edit history.

The same standards for our products
Today, we publish guides and preview our product direction; orders are not open. We have no first-hand sample-test results to publish yet. Product claims will need evidence suited to the claim.
When content involves our own products, sponsored work, gifted samples, or commission-earning links, we will disclose that relationship beside the content. Our recommendations should be useful before anyone buys.
